Made of steel, limestone, and bells, the marvelously strong structure is designed to be a durable fixture in the ever-changing landscape of Las Vegas. Construction took 32 months and 1.5 million working hours, completed by nearly 3,000 people. Beginning in 2007, the design team behind The Smith Center began to travel North America and Europe to study the most exceptional opera houses, performance venues, and opera halls – Musikverein in Vienna, La Scala in Milan, and Palais Garnier in Paris among others.
